Medical Oncology & Systemic Therapy is a comprehensive professional course designed to provide healthcare professionals with an in-depth foundation in the principles, clinical applications, safety considerations, and monitoring of systemic cancer treatment.
The course examines how systemic therapies are selected and used according to cancer type, disease stage, tumor biology, molecular characteristics, biomarkers, patient factors, treatment intent, and previous therapy. Learners will develop a structured understanding of conventional and modern systemic treatment approaches, including cytotoxic chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, antibody-based treatments, antibody-drug conjugates, and selected cellular and other emerging therapies.
Particular emphasis is placed on the complete treatment pathway—from treatment planning and regimen selection through pre-treatment assessment, drug administration, monitoring, toxicity recognition and management, response assessment, dose modification, treatment adherence, and survivorship.
The course also addresses the principles of precision oncology and biomarker-directed treatment, pharmacology and mechanisms of action, treatment combinations, resistance, drug interactions, supportive care, oncologic emergencies, and safe handling of hazardous anticancer medications.
Learners will also explore the practical responsibilities of the multidisciplinary oncology team, with particular attention to oncology nursing, patient education, informed consent, medication safety, infusion monitoring, adverse-event management, psychosocial support, nutrition, symptom control, and treatment coordination.
The course is designed to prepare learners for advanced professional practice, oncology certification examinations, multidisciplinary cancer-care environments, and continued study in specialized areas of medical and integrative oncology.
