Radiation Oncology is a comprehensive professional course designed to provide healthcare professionals with a strong foundation in the scientific principles, clinical applications, treatment techniques, safety considerations, and supportive care associated with radiation therapy in cancer management.

The course explores how ionizing radiation is used to treat malignant disease, control local and regional tumors, reduce recurrence risk, relieve cancer-related symptoms, and support curative or palliative treatment strategies. Learners will develop an understanding of the biological effects of radiation, principles of radiation sensitivity, treatment intent, radiation planning, treatment delivery, dose and fractionation, and integration of radiotherapy with surgery and systemic therapy.

Core topics include radiobiology, radiation physics, treatment planning, external-beam radiotherapy, three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), stereotactic techniques, brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy, proton therapy, and selected emerging technologies.

The course also emphasizes the clinical management of patients receiving radiation therapy, including pre-treatment assessment, treatment preparation, skin care, nutrition, symptom management, acute and late radiation toxicities, emergency recognition, psychosocial support, survivorship, and quality of life.

Particular attention is given to radiation safety and protection, including safe practice for patients, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and the wider environment. Learners will also explore the multidisciplinary role of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists/therapy radiographers, oncology nurses, dosimetrists, surgeons, medical oncologists, radiologists, and supportive-care professionals.
